Medieval Fortified edifice that was built between the 12th and 13th-centuries
around an ancient 10th-century castle keep.
It was subsequently elevated in the 15th-century. It was restructured and enlarged in the 16th,
17th and 18th centuries. It was then restored and restructured by the architect Alfredo DAndrade
in the late 19th-century. Inside the castle there are not only period furnishings on view,
but also a well-stocked picture gallery,
a precious collection of old weapons, historical archives and a library.

The area of : Acqui, Val Bormida, Orba, Erro and Ovada
offers a timeless journey between hospitality in the countryside tradition,
the charms of ancient fortresses, castles and the religious trails of pilgrims
in the Monferrato area and,in addition, the modern spa facilities of Acqui Terme.

Ovada (population12,800), capital of the Orba valley, is placed near the confluence of the
Orba and Stura rivers and is one of the most important passages across the Appennines
connecting the Po valley with the Ligurian Sea.

The oldest structure of the Castle is the square tower which goes back to the 10th century,
used to keep watch for Saracen invasions.

"Wonderful old castle. Stayed in Casa Nobile apartment, perfect for family of four. They provided cot. Lovely kitchen. Great safe garden for kids playing (they have a roundabout and some toys) and bbq. Luca is lively and as attentive as you need, very informative about things to do locally. The Swedish manager was great and did us a cellar tour and wine tasting. Good location to visit Genoa."
